Mastercard and a Guy Named Scott Quigley

It may very well be that there are many guys named Scott Quigley.

I was introduced to one, very cool, guy named Scott Quigley by my friend Barry Weiss. This “Friend of Weiss” Scott Quigley lives somewhere in Michigan.

Now, this “Friend of Weiss” Scott Quigley is probably not the guy that put this video together (at the end of the video the director’s name is listed as Scott Quigley), but if he is, I owe him a beer — maybe 2.

This is hilarious.

And yes, I have a daughter, and yes, I am days away from the birth of another.

Two thoughts occurred to me after watching this video. First, I hope that my younger (not yet born daughter) is as cool as the younger girl in this video. Second, and most of all, I hope that I am as cool as this Dad when my daughters are teenagers.

We can only hope.

Another Reminder to Unplug and Slow Down

Sean CarterAs is the case everyday, I am bombarded with stuff to read.

I do my best to scan quickly and discard, but every now and then something catches my eye and I am compelled by some invisible force to read and learn.

Two highlights caught my eye today in the ABA Journal Report. The first was about Scalia (and whether or not he should recuse himself from the Hamdan v. Rumsfeld case). The other was a humor article written by Sean Carter.

The Carter Article was (as intended) amusing. I don’t watch much TV, but I do have an unhealthy obsession with Ethernet jacks in hotel rooms.

I encourage anyone that this reading this to read that….and then turn off the computer and go play with the kids.

Testing Qumana

I was looking around on the Technorati site during lunch and found a banner ad for Qumana. It is a WYSIWYG editor for blog posts.

I am really old fashioned. I like the WordPress backend.

Nevertheless, I am trying Qumana out and will post more about what I think after having used it a bit.

UPDATE: So I am having trouble with tags…I type them into Qumana for a post and they never appear on the site. And, I am picky about in-line images and would rather code to CSS than try to figure out Qumana’s image insert pop-up (which might be laziness on my part). Finally, I like my imbedded links to open in a new window. For this I add a special code into the image call. This last part is automatic in WP, but I have to manually add it in Qumana. I’ll report back with me when I find more. Of course, all of the above could be user error — or that I am a novice — or both. But right now — with this beta version — I think that I would rather code my posts by hand inside the WP backend.

Boy I’m Slow….

It’s been spring for 7 days now (or at least so says the US Navy) and I have continued showing a banner of a cold and cloudy Alps. Now, don’t get me wrong, the Alps are beautiful, but spring is for color and flowers. Here they are … better late than never.

K2 Rocks

I just spent a weekend with K2. First r292 and then r298.

This platform just rocks.

I am a true novice … but watching www.wiphey.com (and getting some nudging from dancameron.org) is all that I really needed (that plus some true “alone time” with the code — just staring at code seems to really help me — one who does virtually no code).

Of course, the recent ventures by the K2 team into javascript (see the new slider at the top of the home page and the interaction of the livesearch script with the home page and finally my — based on dancameron‘s drop downs — clickable Weather header) can leave my head spinning, but I will get there soon enough.

So, this is my hat-tip to Zeo, Chris and Michael. Thanks guys. I am really having fun with this.
