Apple Just Won Me Over Again

I know, I know, I just wrote about Apple Service.

But I can’t let this story pass. It is just too good.

I am cruising my RSS feeds and Paul’s entry about the new MacBook Pros looks interesting…actually it was the Google piece of the entry that really took me to Paul’s site, but that’s yet another entry.

Paul mentioned in his entry how significant the upgrades were to the MacBook Pro line of computers and my heart sank.

Why? Because I just ordered a MacBook Pro. In fact, I ordered it for my Mom who was giving it to me as a birthday present — she doesn’t do something that big as a surprise.

Mom and I placed the order at the end of September and it was delivered to her house on September 29th. That’s were it sat…in the original shipping box — my birthday is not until Saturday.

And so I lamented on Paul’s blog how I just missed getting the new-more-powerful MacBook Pro.

And then something very cool happened. Corey took time out to point me to the Apple policy on returns. I owe Corey big time…but this entry is not about Corey.

This entry is about Apple Service.

As the Apple Policy clearly states, you can return something within 14 days. You can return it within 30 days if it is DOA. I have no idea whether or not it was DOA (because we never opened the box), but we were certainly outside of the 14 day return period (computer arrived on 9/29 and Paul’s entry was on 10/24).

I called Apple Service anyway. I spoke with a very nice guy named Eric. I told him the story. He put me on hold for 15 minutes or so (where he was obviously lobbying my case to his boss) and…returned with an RMA.

Yes, that’s right. Apple had no reason to take back the computer. In fact, by tomorrow, they will have received the return of a computer that is obsolete. Yet, or some reason, they added to my birthday present.

I don’t know what the reason was, but all I can say is that they won me over yet again.

Thanks to Corey for the tip. Thanks to Mom for the really cool computer. And thanks to Apple for something that they really did not need to do.

All of you guys rock.
