Misogyny

Oxford definition of Misogyny
I agree with Seth Godin that it is unfortunate that this conduct/attitude is common enough to warrant its own word.

I also agree with Nils that what just happened to Kathy Sierra really makes me question whether blogging is something that I really want to do.

As a father of daughters, as a member of the human race, I assert that this needs to stop….and it needs to be prosecuted.

  • Thanks. Someone just suggested we should not talk about it so it ‘just goes away’. That’s like one of your neighbours being beaten up and saying: “That just happens when you walk the streets. The police will take care of it.” I think we should all blog it so that at least everyone knows about it.

With regard to your dictionary entry, I just read in a novel how next to misogyny there is only misanthropy. No word exists for hatred of just males (not that we need one of course, we need to get rid of the others first). The point is, obviously, that there was never a lexicographer able to conceive such a thing. Says it all I guess.

  • I saw those posts too. And I agree with you. Silence is NOT the right approach.

  • hear hear!

I guess that’s why I was given three boys to raise — to send them out into the world to fight back against misogyny. (And to figure out how to harness the wind, and the sun…)

And how cool is that, to be able to edit my misspelled comment!

  • I am glad that it works. I just hate hitting submit only to regret it a second later. Do-overs should always be a part of life.
